How Community Colleges Support Parenting Students: Research Evidence on Belonging, Wellbeing, and Academic Success

This webinar will share the experiences of three community colleges from Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin who participated in the inaugural cohort of the College Belonging and Connection for Families (CBCF) Initiative. Each college received funding, collaborative guidance, research support, and inclusion in a peer cohort.

The CBCF team leaders from each college will share (1) a new resource and activity in action, (2) the application of research evidence, and (3) resulting policy change. The CBCF will also showcase research that demonstrates the importance of college programs and policies to parenting student belonging, wellbeing, and success. Members of the advisory team will conclude with an interactive discussion of the implications of this work for institutional and state policy.

“Just to see that connection here on the college campus is not something that's typical at other college campuses. And something I'll remember is her making her first ribbon skirt and wearing it at the round dance. I feel like there is that welcome feeling here.” -Parenting Student at the College of Menominee Nation

The CBCF Initiative is funded by the ECMC, Annie E. Casey, and Michelson 20MM Foundations. This webinar is sponsored by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). The three nationally selected college partners include Sinclair Community College, Brightpoint Community College, and the College of Menominee Nation.
